Chemical/Oil Products Tanker Charter
Chemical/oil products tankers are flexible ships: they carry clean petroleum products and also many chemicals, which is why they are in wide demand.
What they carry
Clean petroleum products such as gasoline, naphtha, jet fuel and diesel, and chemicals and vegetable oils that suit their coated or stainless steel tanks.
Why charterers choose them
The same ship can switch between product and chemical trades, so there is often more choice of ships and dates. Ship size is usually in the medium range.
How it is chartered
Mostly on a voyage charter for a parcel or a full cargo, or on a time charter. Give the product, the quantity, the ports, the laycan and the tank cleanliness you need.
A flexible ship
A chemical and oil products tanker is built to carry refined petroleum products and a range of chemicals, with coated or stainless tanks and several separate tanks. This flexibility lets the ship operator take a chemical cargo in one direction and a clean petroleum product on the way back, which keeps the ship busy. Typical sizes are about 20,000 to 55,000 DWT.
Cargoes
Typical cargoes are diesel, gasoline and naphtha, and chemicals such as methanol, ethanol and aromatics, and sometimes vegetable oils if the tanks allow. As with every tanker, the previous cargoes and the tank cleaning decide whether a ship can take your product. See chemical tankers and oil products tankers.
